The new exhibition at Fort Dunree is a complete retelling of the history of the Fort through 6 chronological chapters in its history.
Chapter 1
The story begins in the background of the area up until the late 1700s when the first British fortifications were established against the threat of Napoleonic invasion.
Chapter 2
The strategic importance of fort Dunree during World War 1 is examined in chapter 2.
Chapter 3
Looks at life in the fort between the end of World War 1 and the handover of the fort into Irish control.
Chapter 4
Takes a closer look at the events of the handover when fort Dunree was the last military installation on the island of Ireland to be handed back to the British.
Chapter 5
Looks at the relevance of the fort during World War 2.
Chapter 6
Examines the people and events which have formed the fort as a visitor attraction from 1986 to today.
